Naga Munchetty’s age is 50. Naga was born on 25 February 1975. She told HELLO! magazine in June 2025 that she was “so excited” to be turning 50. Not fearing it, not pretending she’s young. Just excited.
Turning 50 strikes terror into most people’s hearts. Naga’s out here celebrating it. That’s refreshing, innit?
Where She Came From
Naga Munchetty parents met whilst studying in Wales in the early 70s. Her mum, Muthu, is from Tamil Nadu in India, and her dad’s from Mauritius. They got married in London in 1974 without telling their parents first, which was quite rebellious at that time.

Naga Munchetty ethnicity is Indian and Mauritian. She was raised alongside her younger sister in the South London suburb of Streatham.
Her parents hoped she would be a lawyer or doctor. She told her mother she’d like to study English Literature at Leeds University, and her mum said, “What are you going to do with that – become a poet?”
Turned out alright though. Nearly 30 years in journalism now.

The Name Thing
Naga didn’t like her name when she was growing up. Considered swapping it for Nadia. Never did, though. Her full name is Subha Nagalakshmi Munchetty-Chendriah. Yeah, that’s why she goes by Naga Munchetty on telly.
Naga Munchetty Husband and No Kids
Naga Munchetty husband is James Haggar, who works as a television director and broadcast consultant. They married in 2007, after many years of dating. He has previously worked for CNBC, Sky and ITV, was a senior director on Sky News’ The Pledge and was a GB News creative director.
So they’re both in telly, which either makes things easier because they know how it all works or harder because they’re both ludicrously busy.
The couple reside in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, in a property worth £2 million if rumours are to be believed. Not too shabby.
Does Naga Munchetty have a child? No. The couple decided not to have children, and they’ve spoken openly about it despite being constantly prodded on the issue.
Naga and James have been married for 18 years. That’s a real solid relationship in an industry that sees marriages collapse on the regular.

The Golf Thing
Naga’s proper good at golf. Her handicap had been nine in 2015 and was now down to six by 2024. That’s seriously impressive.
Won the Hertfordshire de Paula Cup in 2012. She is a committee member of Moor Park Golf Club. When she appeared on Celebrity Mastermind in 2013, she won – she chose golf as her specialist subject.
Also plays jazz trumpet and classical piano. Just casually being talented at everything.

The Career Journey
Began at the London Evening Standard and The Observer, covering business news after graduating from Leeds in 1997. Worked at Reuters, CNBC Europe, Channel 4 News, and Bloomberg.
Joined the BBC in 2010. Started doing early morning bulletins, then became a regular on BBC Breakfast. Now she’s one of the main presenters.
Also hosts Radio 5 Live Monday to Wednesday, 11 am to 2 pm. Took over from Emma Barnett.
That’s two major jobs running at once. BBC Breakfast means getting up at a ridiculous o’clock. Then straight to the radio after. Knackering schedule.
Naga Munchetty’s Book About Her Health
Naga Munchetty book “It’s Probably Nothing” came out in January 2025. It’s about adenomyosis, a painful womb condition she’d had for years before getting diagnosed in September 2022.
Doctors kept telling her it was normal period pain. Wasn’t. She went public about it in May 2023 on her radio show.
Writing about it helps other women recognise symptoms and push for proper diagnosis. That’s using your platform properly.

Strictly Was a Disaster
Did Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 with Pasha Kovalev. Got voted out in week four. Wasn’t the strongest dancer that year, but the training schedule looked mental whilst doing BBC Breakfast.
She’s done loads of other shows, though. Won Celebrity Mastermind. Been on Have I Got News for You twice in 2023 as host. Did Blankety Blank and The Weakest Link.
That David Attenborough Interview
In July 2018, Naga interviewed David Attenborough on BBC Breakfast. It went viral for being awkward.
He was there for the Big Butterfly Count. She asked about the royal family instead. He looked unimpressed and shut down most of her questions.
The internet loved it. Attenborough’s face became a meme. Probably wasn’t entirely her fault – producers tell you what to ask on breakfast telly.
Turning 50 Changed Things
When Naga turned 50 in February 2025, she did a podcast with Ateh Jewel. Said her 40s were when she felt most settled. Still ambitious but stopped chasing so hard.
Naga Munchett,y age 50, means she’s been in journalism for nearly 30 years, at the BBC for 15, and married for 18 years. She’s earned the feeling of being settled.
Said turning 50 felt like this massive relief. Finally comfortable with everything.
Why She’s Rated
Naga doesn’t let politicians dodge questions. Not aggressive about it, just persistent. Keeps asking till she gets an actual answer.
She’s dealt with racism and sexism throughout her career. In 2019, the BBC upheld complaints against her for criticising Trump’s racism on air. The Director-General overturned it after backlash. Handled the whole thing with class.
Still Going Strong
Naga Munchetty, age 50, hasn’t slowed her down. Still doing BBC Breakfast multiple days weekly. Still hosting Radio 5 Live for three days. Still appearing on panel shows.
She’s a trustee at Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth. Governor at a Catholic school. Committee member at her golf club.
The book came out this year. Probably working on the next project already, whilst presenting two shows and playing golf.

Bottom Line
Naga turned 50 in February 202,5, and she’s absolutely smashing life. Built a 30-year journalism career, became one of the BBC’s most recognised faces, wrote about her health struggles, plays golf brilliantly, and seems genuinely happy.
Not trying to look younger, not pretending she’s something else. Just being good at what she does, whilst helping other women by talking about adenomyosis openly.
That’s Naga Munchetty at 50. At the top of her game, still getting better. Not bad for the girl from Streatham whose mum thought studying English was pointless.
