She made her debut next to Dennis Hopper in Flesh Colour (1978), played Martini in the Rutles spoof All You Need Is Cash, was Corrine in The American Success Company, and turned up in The Cannonball Run.
Telly came calling too – Miami Vice, Hotel, and The Colbys. By the late eighties? She’d walked away from it all.
But come on — it was the nightlife that sold papers. She was Studio 54 royalty, an Andy Warhol muse splashed across his Interview magazine, and yes – she rode a white horse into the club on her 32nd birthday in 1977.
She’d already swanned into the International Best Dressed Hall of Fame in 1976, and even now the Bianca Jagger model of effortless cool gets nicked on every red carpet going.
Before Mick, she’d romanced Michael Caine and record mogul Eddie Barclay. Later, there was a rumoured on-off fling with Ryan O’Neal. The woman did not lack suitors.
The Bianca Jagger Wedding That Everyone Tries to Copy
On 12 May 1971, a mere nine months after she met Mick at a French concert, the pair wed at the town hall in Saint-Tropez. She was secretly four months gone with daughter Jade (who arrived that October in Paris).

The Day Everything Changed
In 1981, Bianca joined a US congressional delegation to a UN refugee camp in Honduras called Colomoncagua. Out of nowhere, a death squad from El Salvador stormed in, seized around 40 refugees and marched them off at gunpoint. M
Mad as it sounds, Bianca and the group gave chase down a riverbed, armed with nothing but cameras. When the men spun round with their M16s, the group roared:
“You will have to kill us all!”
And, unbelievably, it worked. The captives walked free. The Sri Lanka Campaign, whose advisory council she’s on, records that she’s called it “a turning point in my life”.
She Just Wouldn’t Sit Down and Shut Up
In fact, the fire was lit even earlier. After the 1972 Managua earthquake killed more than 10,000 people, she sweet-talked the Rolling Stones into a benefit gig. A 1979 Red Cross trip showed her the Somoza regime’s brutality, and there was no turning back.
From then on she was unstoppable. She battled US interference in Nicaragua. She fought the death penalty (and helped save death-row prisoner Guinevere Garcia).
She stood up for the Yanomami in Brazil and the Miskito in Nicaragua. In the nineties she documented the mass rape of Bosnian women and got 22 children out of the war zones.
She dragged oil giant ChevronTexaco over the coals for trashing the Ecuadorian Amazon, chaired the World Future Council (2007–2009), and went green with 350.org and the Bonn Challenge.
Gongs, God and a Life Lived in a Suitcase
Naturally, the awards piled up — the 2004 Right Livelihood Award and Mikhail Gorbachev’s World Achievement Award among them.
Right Livelihood, which crowned her a laureate, quotes her cracking line:
“With all the problems we face today, for me, it is more of a question of whether I can afford not to be involved.”
A devout Catholic with dual British-Nicaraguan nationality, she’s now a Council of Europe goodwill ambassador. And how does she sum up her whirlwind life? In 2008 she told High Profiles, dry as anything: “I now live in a suitcase.”
