David Harbour Net Worth: How Chief Hopper Built His Fortune

Published on November 3, 2025 by Erica Smith

David Harbour net worth stands at $6 million in 2025. Not bad for a bloke who spent most of his career doing supporting roles before landing Chief Hopper, yeah?

Look, I’ll be straight with you. Harbour’s not mega-rich by Hollywood standards. But the man from White Plains, New York, has built something substantial over two decades of hard work. And now at 50 (David Harbour age is exactly that, as he was born 10 April 1975), he’s finally cashing in big time.

The Stranger Things Money

When Harbour signed on for Stranger Things in 2016, Netflix offered him $100,000 an episode. Good money, but not mental. After two seasons, that’s only $1.7 million in the bank. His mates probably made more dough doing telly ads.

Then the show went massive. Season three pushed him up to $350,000 an episode, which works out to $3 million for eight hours of telly. Not bad, but it’s not silly money.

Season five, though? This is where things get interesting. He and Winona Ryder are getting $9.5 million each for the final run. The kids – Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown – are both banking $7 million. After nine years of playing the same copper with a dodgy moustache, Harbour’s finally getting paid what he’s worth.

Being tall helps, by the way. David Harbour height is 6 feet 3, which gets you cast in roles shorter actors can’t pull off. Size matters in this business.

He’s Done With Hopper

Here’s what most people don’t know. Harbour’s absolutely gagging to finish Stranger Things. He told Scarlett Johansson in June that by season three or four, he was already thinking about running for the hills.

His exact words were basically, “How much more story is there? You’re playing the same beat over and over.” After ten years, he wants to do something different. Can you blame him?

Why did David Harbour leave Stranger Things? Well, he hasn’t technically left, as the show’s ending. But trust me, if they’d wanted a season six, he’d have been off. The man’s been playing Hopper since 2016, and he’s proper sick of it. He said it himself in interviews.

Season five drops in three parts; the first bit came outon  26 November, Christmas Day gets part two, and New Year’s Eve wraps it up. Then he’s free.

The Other Stuff He’s Done

Harbour was in Black Widow as Red Guardian, and he earned about $2 million for that role. He’s back for Thunderbolts in 2025 and Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, so there’s more Marvel money still to come.

In 2019, Hellboy was a disaster, but he still got paid. Violent Night in 2022 did okay, and they are doing a sequel for December 2026. He’s been in tonnes of movies over the years: Quantum of Solace, Brokeback Mountain and Gran Turismo. None of those made him rich, but they all added up. So he’s doing okay.

Smart move? He’s got producer credits on four projects. That’s double the money for the same work.

The Marriage That Fell Apart

Harbour married Lily Allen in September 2020. Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas, the whole bit. They split in December 2024 and made it official in February 2025.

Lily Allen and David Harbour split wasn’t pretty. She wrote an entire album about it called West End Girl, released in October 2025. Recorded the whole thing in 16 days whilst their marriage was collapsing. The album talks about cheating and betrayal, though Harbour’s not said much except he’s “protective” of his private life.

They’re selling their Brooklyn townhouse for $8 million. That’ll boost David Harbour net worth once it goes through.

Harbour got sober at 24 after battling the drink. He’s got bipolar disorder too, and he’s been open about both. That takes bollocks, being honest about that stuff when you’re famous.

What He Does With His Cash

Harbour’s not flashy. He’s got a Dodge Challenger and some other muscle cars, though he admits he’s not really a car person. Lives in Brooklyn, doesn’t post pictures of yachts or private jets or any of that nonsense.

The bloke seems more interested in doing decent work than showing off. Which is refreshing when half of Hollywood’s on Instagram pretending they’re richer than they actually are.

What Happens Now

At 50, Harbour’s got enough money to pick and choose. Not so much that he never needs to work again, but enough to turn down rubbish roles.

After Stranger Things wraps on  New Year’s Eve, he’s doing Violent Night 2 and more Marvel stuff. He’s also voicing some character in DC’s Creature Commandos. The man’s staying busy, just on his terms now.

Final Thoughts

Six million quid isn’t Robert Downey Jr money, but it’s solid. Harbour’s worked steadily for twenty-plus years without selling out completely. That Stranger Things money set him up nicely, and now he can do whatever he wants. He’s kicked addiction, kept a tab on his mental health, stayed sober, and built a real career.

The marriage didn’t work out, but it hardly ever does. He’s sorted job-wise, and after a decade of playing the same role, he’s ready to show what else he can do. And with the money in the bank from Stranger Things season five, he can afford to take risks.

Fair enough, I reckon. The bloke’s earned it.
