Late-night host Stephen Colbert says CBS lawyers blocked his planned TV interview with Texas Senate candidate James Talarico just as early voting began in Texas.
Colbert revealed his segment with Democratic candidate James Talarico was pulled from The Late Show broadcast due to fears it would trigger an FCC “equal time” requirement.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued new guidance suggesting talk shows must give equal airtime to all political candidates — a rule traditionally not enforced for talk shows.
Colbert said CBS lawyers told him not only to drop the inteearly voting opened in Texasrview — but also not to mention it. He defied that and discussed the issue on air.
Talarico posted the interview on Social Media, saying it was “the interview Donald Trump didn’t want you to see.” He claims this reflects political interference.
